Health benefits of Vitamin K

Vitamin K is needed for blood clotting, which means it helps wounds heal properly. There’s further evidence it may help keep bones healthy*.

Links to coronavirus

What’s more, a recent Dutch study suggested a link between vitamin K deficiency and the worst coronavirus outcomes. Researchers found that the vitamin could combat two dangerous features of coronavirus – blood clotting, and degradation of elastic fibres in the lungs.

Vitamin K is vital in the production of proteins that regulate clotting and can protect against lung disease. Dr Rob Janssen, a scientist working on the project, said that in light of these initial findings he would encourage a healthy intake of the vitamin, but not to anyone on blood-thinning medications.

It’s fascinating to read more about the vitamins linked to Covid19 as these studies begin to unfold.
